Employment Opportunities for 2021-2022

Kindergarten

     Next to the headmaster, the kindergarten teacher at Mirus Academy must be next most well-versed instructor in the classical model.  The teacher must be able to conduct a well ordered classroom, teach the fundamentals of phonics, prepare and integrate gospel-saturated lesson plans, and answer parents concerning the importance of a classical model of education.  

First Grade

      The teacher must be able to conduct a well ordered classroom, teach the fundamentals of phonics, and prepare and integrate gospel-saturated lesson plans.  First grade teachers must maintain a teacher-centered classroom, motivate through discipline, and point to the wonder inherent in every subject studied.  The teacher must be comfortable with addressing sin through grace and truth and be willing to engage in the beauty of repetition.

Art

      The teacher must be able to conduct a well ordered classroom, teach the fundamentals of art, and prepare and integrate gospel-saturated lesson plans.  Art teachers must point students to the truth that beauty is not merely in the "eye of the beholder."  The art teacher must be well versed in art history and the various forms of art from drawing to sculpture to architecture.  The students at Mirus are instructed in basic drawing skills fundamentally up through the Grammar Stage.  Thus, great skills in drawing is a must.

Science

      The teacher must be able to conduct a well ordered classroom, teach the fundamentals of science, and prepare and integrate gospel-saturated lesson plans.  The science teacher must have a strong background in various scientific fields and can teach at least physics, biology, chemistry, and earth science. The teacher must lead students through effective laboratory skills, conduct experiments aimed at understanding, and prioritize understanding over entertainment.  Classical science aims at understanding the workings of the world in a rich philosophical engagement that is sharpened through disciplined observations.  A science teacher at Mirus should provide this.

Math

      The teacher must be able to conduct a well ordered classroom, teach the fundamentals of mathematics, and prepare and integrate gospel-saturated lesson plans.  The math teacher must be able to teach from Pre-algebra to Calculus II.  The teacher must be clear in the communication of mathematical concepts, require precise discipline from the students, and present mathematics as an extension of language learning.  Students must be required to articulate clearly how they approach, navigate, and ultimately solve problems.  The emphasis here being on understanding not computation.  

Latin

      The teacher must be able to conduct a well ordered classroom, teach the fundamentals of Latin, and prepare and integrate gospel-saturated lesson plans.  The Latin teacher must be comfortable teaching a range of abilities from beginner to advanced.  The teacher must incorporate a great amount of repetition into the classroom, seek to have the students speak in Latin as much as possible, and communicate Latin grammar clearly.  The teacher should be able to pull in history and geography into the lessons as well.
